The Lincoln High School Varsity Baseball team had a disappointing season in 2023, although most of their team was seniors. The team ended off the season with a 8-10 record, which put them in 9th place in the division, and was not good enough to make the playoffs.
This team had a lot of hype before the season because they had such a senior-heavy lineup, but they didn’t play up to expectations. This year, the lions have a younger team filled with sophomores and up and coming freshmen.
A bright spot in this year’s team is definitely the pitching staff. The staff is made up of three seniors and two juniors. The seniors consist of Joey Conti, Sean Clifford, and Jaiden Torres. While the two junior pitchers are Issac Cabral and Jon-luca-Feole. This group of pitchers is debatably one of the best in division one and could lead the Lions to a successful year.
This season, the outfield is defended by three sophomores, and the infield consists of two. These young players are going to play a crucial part in their success this season and years to come.
Starting at catcher is freshmen Caden Oldham who has a big bat in the lineup and great defensive skills. He has big time power for a freshman, and a great arm behind the plate, which is something the Lions needed for years.
Although Lincoln has a good team this year, their competition consists of the best teams in the state. The tough schedule is what caused problems for Lincoln in past years, having to face schools like Bishop Hendricken and Lasalle with many D1 commits.
A big role in the Lion’s success this year is their leadership from the seniors. With a young team, the experienced seniors need to lead the way for the sophomores and freshmen so they can set a good example.
The seniors this year are Joey Conti, Sean Clifford, Daniel Lee, and Jaiden Torres. All four players have lots of experience with the team, which is a key factor for their team chemistry and overall success.
The main thing the Lions need to focus on is their hitting for multiple reasons. Because of their highly talented pitching staff, they won’t give up a lot of runs. This means that the lineup needs to step up and score some runs to support their pitching staff. In addition, many of last season’s best hitters left for college last year.
This leaves the team with many young hitters that are expected to step up to replace them. Since they’re stacked with young sophomores, it is safe to say Lincoln is looking toward have many years of success.forward to ahead of 2024.
This year’s Lincoln Lions have high expectations and are widely considered a very solid team in Division One.
