Slipknot’s recent performance at this year’s Sick New World festival proved that the band has seemingly gotten themselves back on track. In November 2023, Slipknot announced that they had parted ways with drummer Jay Wienberg, a move that upset many fans (myself included). In the months following, the group’s future was very much in doubt, as was the respect by the fanbase. However, in April of 2024, it was revealed that Slipknot had found a new drummer in Eloy Casagrande. Casagrande had before made his name as the drummer of Sepultura for over a decade before leaving to join Slipknot (he was replaced by Grayson Nekrutman who had recently left Suicidal Tendencies, being replaced, ironically enough, by Jay Wienberg). I’d be lying if I said that Eloy didn’t bring something that had been missing since Joey Jordison was on drums that Jay couldn’t really bring. Eloy hits with a similar intensity that Jay didn’t quite have, Eloy is much more of a metal drummer. Overall, I am very much looking forward to what Slipknot does from here on out.
