At the start of this school year, the students of Lincoln Senior High School were greeted by a big change: a brand-new canopy entrance. As students walked into the building, they couldn’t help but notice this fresh addition.
This new entrance is part of the Canopy-Facade project to upgrade the appearance of the front of the school. The new entrance also comes with a large lion on the front of the building as well, helping the new entrance look even better. The previous canopy was also undersized and did not fit the rest of the building.
”It was an initiative by the school committee,” said Principal Hopkins. “Part of it is that the original entrance didn’t look like an entrance. The project not only involved taking down the old structure, but also repairing the front section of the building”.
The result is a modern and inviting entrance that makes the school look more appealing. This new entrance also provides better protection from rain and snow, making it safer and more comfortable for everyone who enters and exits the building.
According to the Lincoln Public Schools website, the budget for the Canopy-Facade project was $806,000. Thankfully, the state will reimburse at least 50% of the total cost, which means taxpayers only have to cover no more than $403,000. This is an investment by the town in maintaining and improving its schools.
The school committee understood that a welcoming and functional entrance is important because it sets the tone for the entire school. A nice entrance can make a school feel more inviting, encouraging both current students and potential new families to feel excited about being part of the school community.
Many students are thrilled about the new entrance. For them, it feels like a fresh start and a boost to school spirit.
“The new school entrance is great,” said sophomore Michael Gugel. “It allows us to be protected from weather conditions when coming in and out of school and it is more protective than the old entrance. It also brings the school together making its appearance look better and more aesthetic as well.”
A concern that the school committee had with the construction of the main entrance was whether the school would be able to even have the entrance fully built before the new school year. But they were able to complete in time for students to enter through the front of the building for the first day of school
“It was working along those time elements to make sure it could get done, and breaking it up. Part of it was done during April vacation, and it started immediately after the school year ended last year,” said Hopkins.
As the year continues, the impact of the Canopy-Facade project will be felt throughout the school. This transformation is not just about looks; it represents a commitment to student success and well-being. By investing in the school’s infrastructure, Lincoln Senior High School is creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment for everyone. The new entrance encourages students to take pride in their school, fostering a sense of belonging that is vital for their education.
