LHS features a range of clubs and extracurricular activities, inviting students to explore passions and make new connections. Two of these clubs are run by sophomore Eliza Gobin Green Team, an environmentally friendly club that strives to advocate for eco-friendly policies within LHS and Lincoln, and the Roaring Readers Club, where students read a student-suggested book every month and discuss it over meetings.
Green Team
Green Team, originally run by LHS class of 2024 graduate Sadie Hurley, is now run by Gobin and junior Khadija Kouraj who both aim to help students understand the importance of environmental protection and assist the community in eco-friendly matters. This club meets on the second Thursday of each month in the health room from 2-3 PM.
“This helps students by giving them an opportunity to improve their community, specifically by making it more eco-friendly,” Gobin said. “Climate change is a very real aspect in all of our futures, and in Green Team we take action to minimize its impact.”
Physical education teacher Mr. Frost serves as the club advisor.
“The goal of the green team is to help Lincoln High School students become more aware of how they can become better stewards of our school community and its environment,” he said. “Students need to understand how they can play a role in their homes, schools, and the community of Lincoln or where they choose to live after graduation.”
Students passionate about the environment should join Green Team to make a positive and eco-friendly impact on the community and work alongside a body of climate-conscious activists. Those who wish to know more about Green Team can email Gobin, Kouraj, or Mr. Frost.
Roaring Readers Club
The Roaring Readers Club is a new addition to LHS this year. S read aa student-selected book and participate in meetings about it. Students interested in discovering new books to read may join and assert themselves in a positive and comfortable environment along with other book lovers. This club meets in the library on the third monday of each month.
“This helps students by motivating them to read more, getting them to try books in genres or perspectives they would not normally explore, and encouraging them to think critically about what they read,” said Gobin. “Plus reading is not the most popular hobby so it’s nice to have a community with that shared interest.”
“The club is very welcoming and positive, everyone is so nice!” said club member sophomore Molly Comtois. “It gives us a chance to share our ideas and opinions on a book we read with other people. It’s something to look forward to every month!”
Students interested in finding new books and enhancing their understanding of literature may join the Roaring Readers Club. Anyone looking for more information about this club may contact the club’s advisor, Mrs. Svitil.
Both of these clubs can support students in expanding their knowledge throughout their high school years in various ways. These after-school activities are also fun ways to spend time when students are looking for something to do.
