It’s hard not to notice the difference in color of the grass in front of Lincoln High School this year. Thanks to the new sprinkler system that was been installed over the summer, the grass is lush and the field is usable. Not only does the new field elevate Lincoln High’s appearance, but it will be an addition the whole town can enjoy and love too.
The front field, also known as Tiberi Field, has received little use in the years since the turf at Ferguson Field was installed. The field hockey team used to practice and play its games there, but recently the land went unused.
“It was used by so many different sports that required cleats that the grass got torn up easily so it could never grow back. It was dusty and covered in goose poop,” said former field hockey head coach Mrs. Pavao. “There were massive bumps all over it, so it was difficult to play field hockey.”
With the system now installed, this will no longer be a problem for LHS and the town.
“They are only in the front, ” Facilities Director Tony Feola said. “Any green area you’ll see has sprinklers. By installing them now, especially around this time of year in fall. You’ll have a great field for spring.”
The process of upping the field has been taken as a big interest of the town. In hopes of turning it into something new and fresh.
“The job was more of a town problem. They re-established the field for mainly other town sports,” Feola said. “The high school teams won’t use it as much. It’s more for small kid games.”
Now that the field is in improved condition. It will open hundreds of opportunities for the town of lincoln. From a game day field for our town’s youth football to a practice field for our own students. The area will be taken great care of to ensure it will have many more glorious years.

what about the throwing team that uses it? the amount of success that has come from lincoln high is so downplayed. if other teams start using it, it takes away from the hard working throwers that bring such success.
