Throughout the halls of Lincoln High School, students may have seen the many flyers advertising junior Aliyah Bedoya’s tasty exhibition project: a Halloween cake-pop fundraiser to support the Pawtucket Animal Shelter
During lunch period, these spooky treats were being sold for $3 each. Bedoya has raised around $1,200 from selling the cake pops. All profits will go to the shelter which is in urgent need of assistance to enhance its facilities and ensure the well-being of homeless dogs.
Inspired by her deep love for animals, Bedoya launched the Cakepop fundraiser to have the chance to make a difference in various animal’s lives.
“These animals deserve a safe, comfortable environment, and I’m committed to helping them feel the love and security they lack without a home,” said Bedoya. “I’m especially passionate about this because I have three rescue dogs of my own, and seeing their happiness inspires me to make a difference for others.”
Ms. Kruth, Bedoya’s mentor, has been a tremendous support throughout this fundraising journey and has played a crucial role during this project due to her connections with the community, students, and staff.
“It was a pleasure to mentor Aaliyah because she was so enthusiastic and took any kind of direction,” Kruth said. “She accepted other kids’ input and it proved to be very productive.”
These deliciously sweet treats have been a hit among students and staff leading to heavy profits each day. Bedoya has offered both pumpkin spice and chocolate cake pops which students have absolutely loved. The combination of festive flavors and a great cause has made these treats a must-try for many.
Sophomore Kelsie Renard said, “I have only tried the pumpkin spice cake pop, but it was possibly one of the best cake pops I’ve had in a while.”
The fundraiser has been a huge success, and Bedoya plans to donate her profits so the Pawtucket Animal shelter can cover medical vet expenses and purchase essential supplies for the comfort of animals in need. Her initiative not only demonstrates her creativity but also reflects her deep compassion and determination to make a difference in the lives of abandoned animals.
