The Lincoln girls’ tennis team enjoyed a successful season this year. The young team made it to the playoffs and even won their first round playoff match.
Unfortunately, their season ended when they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Prout after winning their first playoff match against East Providence High School. The team ended their season with a record of 5-13.
At the beginning of their season, the girls were visibly struggling in their matches. As the season progressed and the girls gained more confidence, they began improving.
“Our team also realized that our matches against other teams where we lost 3-4 probably could’ve been prevented – clearly we have the ability to do well against hard teams!” said head coach Mr. Lahoud.
Last season, the girls tennis team just missed making the playoffs last year, with a 7-6 record. This season involved a lot of overhaul, after the loss of six varsity seniors this season, including three singles players, Katherine Kilsey, Alexandra Olley, and Isabella Ackerman.
Despite their losses, the team was in high spirits, with the playoffs as the ultimate goal.
Even with the losses from last year, the Lions still boasted a strong lineup with sophomore’s Anna Danis and Tanvi Bobbili at one and two singles. Seniors Ellisynn Letourneau, and Holly Pickering filled out the rest of the singles lineup. The doubles pairings were Lorelei Archambault and Alyssa Lopes, Lily Abramek and Amanda Proia, Charlotte Kilsey and Lana Bahra.
With the loss of six senior girls on the team this year, many others were placed into new positions on the team.
“With a younger team this year, and a lot of our players in brand new positions this year, we did exceptionally well with a majority of our team matches,” sand Lahoud said.
One aspect the team benefited from was the atmosphere of their tight knit group.
“I think that the tennis team is definitely one of the most positive atmospheres in terms of sports and I feel like a lot of people have experience with sports and people not liking them, but I feel like the tennis team is the closest to a family you can really get at LHS,” said junior Lorelei Archambault “Everybody is just supportive and we all watch each other and clap for each other,” said junior Lorelei Archambault.
Despite the team’s losses, Coach Lahoud was proud of the team’s efforts this season.
“We always fought, and played full matches that were never below 2 hours long” he said.
