Tucked away in a small alley off of Providence’s Thayer street lies a little shop smelling of delicious desserts. Welcome to La Creperie, Lincoln resident Leslie Albuquerque’s small business, serving fresh crepes made on the spot.
“Running a small business is extremely rewarding and something that I have always wanted to do,” said Albuquerque. “I like that I get to make all the decisions for La Creperie and it’s gratifying to see my business succeed and see my hard work pay off.”
The building stands out from the two bland buildings that border it. An awning covers chairs and tables for outdoor dining, and fairy lights hang everywhere. The exterior is very inviting and the smell lures customers in. The menu consists of sweet crepes, savory crepes, Salads, wraps, smoothies, and waffles. Although the main attraction are the mouthwatering crepes.
The crepes are delicious and can be filled with many different things and also topped with different things. While ordering, customers can see the chefs in the kitchen making the crepes by putting them on a circular griddle and spreading it around with a wooden spreader.
La creperie benefits from being conveniently located near schools and young people.
“La Creperie draws many different types of customers…. It is close to Brown U, RISD and a couple K through 12 schools as well. This area is popular for people and students to walk around, shop & eat so it’s a great location,” said Albuquerque.
The owner is also no stranger to Lincoln High school. Her daughter Raquel is a junior at LHS.
“Ever since I was born my mom had her business selling crepes and smoothies and I have always loved them!” said Raquel Albuquerque
La Creperie has been open since 1996, and lots of work went into opening it.
“I was inspired to open a crepe restaurant when I was in high school and I traveled to Seattle, WA. While this wasn’t Paris, France, I did stumble upon a great little Creperie in Pike Place Market…I was fascinated by how the crepes were made…The finished crepe was delicious! This and the fact that I love cooking inspired me to open La Creperie” said Albuquerque.
La Crêperie is a unique shop serving delicious food. If you are looking to eat at a dessert place that is different from the mainstream shops stop by La Crêperie on 82 Fones Alley, Providence.
