As the winter sports season is underway, the Lincoln Boys Hockey team enters the season with a chip on their shoulder.
The Lions are coming off a bitter 6-13 season, in which they missed the Division 2 playoffs after losing the play-in game to Cranston West 6-1.
This year the Lions will look forward to getting back in the swing of things with many talented players returning. The Lions only lost two senior starters from last year, and will have eight seniors including captain Jaden Bourski.
¨Last season was definitely tough for us as a team, but we´ve learned a lot from the challenges we faced last year,” said Bourski. “This year, we´re focusing on improving our teamwork and communication on the ice. With a strong training regimen and a positive mindset, I believe we can bounce back and have a successful season.”
It will be up to four year seniors like defenseman Ethan Smith to step up and lead by example for the younger players.
“With being a four year senior, I would like to pave the way and hopefully set a standard that all underclassmen should be at,” said Smith. “I want to guide them and be there for them like the seniors my freshman year were for me because I still remember them and see them.”
Entering his third season with the Lions, head coach Dylan Narodowy is ready to embrace the challenge for these Lions to compete for a Division 2 championship.
“As a program, we are excited to get out there for another season of high school hockey,” said Narodowy. “We are fortunate enough to return 90% of our roster from last year and those student athletes have all worked extremely hard to put this team in a position to be successful. We look to be very competitive in the division and have hopes to push for a State Championship at the end of the season. On top of that, we strive to play a style of hockey that not only represents the school in a positive manner, but also motivates students and others in the community to go to the rink every weekend and watch us compete.”
Lincoln Hockey will be an opportunity to put Division 2 on notice in its 2024-2025 season opener on the road against South Kingstown Rebels.
