As someone interested in fitness and health, supplements like protein powder have been incredibly useful. An easy way to get protein into your diet is to have a protein shake or make your own protein desserts. Recently, I purchased the Chocolate Truffle flavor of whey/casein protein powder from PeScience, a large protein powder company, and it was a very valuable and tasty purchase.
I have tried some of their flavors before, and thought they were better in recipes rather than in a plain protein shake with water. Their vanilla flavor is a staple in my diet; adding it to my blueberry protein shake gives me an easy, high-protein breakfast.
Chocolate Truffle was recommended to me on Tiktok by an influencer who goes by the name Nutrition Narc, and after my chocolate peanut butter flavor ran low, I decided to cough up $32 for this flavor when it was on sale on Amazon. For a little over a dollar per serving, with 27 total, the price was very reasonable and worth purchasing.
As for the taste, it has a very rich chocolate flavor. I had it with 2% milk, so it did end up tasting a little like Ovaltine. The aftertaste wasn’t as strong as other protein products, but it certainly wasn’t pleasant. In comparison to other flavors of PeScience I’ve had, it wasn’t incredibly sweet. I can have a sweet tooth, but sometimes the level of artificial sweeteners in powders are just too strong. I didn’t feel that way with this flavor; it was just the right level of sweetness. Overall, a very solid flavor, especially in comparison to others I have had.
In terms of versatility in recipes, (which I prefer over shakes anyways), PeScience’s whey/casein blend is what gives baked protein powder goods a fluffy texture, opposed to a denser texture found with solely whey protein. I found a recipe for high protein donuts online, and when using this flavor, the “donuts” (which ended up looking more like muffins due to my lack of a donut tray) had a fluffy, light texture, on top of tasting very good.
The macronutrients are also very good, with 125 calories and 25 grams of protein per scoop. For someone trying to go on a diet or a cutting phase, this is a very good ratio of calories to protein.
This protein powder was a very good purchase that will be in my diet for a while. Although the retail price has risen back to $40 for 27 servings, this is still a very good cost for the amount of servings. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in gaining muscle/losing weight on a budget, and I give it a strong 8/10. Its only knocks are the standard problems with a protein powder – the signature unpleasant protein aftertaste. Other than that, PeScience Chocolate Truffle is absolutely worth buying
