Walking around Lincoln High School, it can seem like every hallway is the same. There’s so much emptiness when it comes to these white walls. But with that, comes the opportunity to do so much more with these hallways.
The plain white hallway walls are where the most potential is to engage the interests of students and create a more attractive environment. A change of scenery in the hallways could be a good way of improving students’ moods. If students walk into the building to something more vibrant and welcoming, it wouldn’t be a surprise for them to feel better.
Whether it be inspirational quotes or paintings of roaring lions, filling in the vacancies of these walls could uplift students. Lincoln students could be given the chance to create paintings or designs to show off the creativity of Lincoln students around the school.
Graphic Design teacher Susan Kolenda has given thought to transforming these walls.
“Last year we had graphic design students design things and I think it would be nice to put them around the school,” she said. “However, I think we should definitely have artwork that’s branded to go with the school so it matches,”.
This is an idea that should have the support of the student body, who spend more time in the hallways than anyone else.
¨I think if we were able to showcase the artwork of the students and the true talent of the students, it would go a long way in making students happier,¨ said Lincoln senior Anthony D´Amico.

The potential is there, but in order to put this into place, everything will have to go through administration. Fortunately there is support there as well.
¨I think transforming the hallways is a great idea,” said Principal Hopkins. “it’s something we´ve been consistently working on. I’d love to see something done with the main corridor. It’s very white and we wanna make something that’s very welcoming and that students can be proud of.”
There will still be hurdles to overcome. Planning, budgeting, and execution takes time. But if there happens to be a future where we move away from the plain walls into something more welcoming, I hope it helps bring a positive mood to students.
