This spring started on a positive note for the Lincoln Girls Lacrosse team with a 16-8 victory over Cranston Eash in their first game of the season against Cranston East High School by 16-8. They were led by seniors Faith Miguel and Spencer Cameron who scored five goals and three goals respectively.
The win is a reflection of the dedication that head coach Jordan Musser has been looking forward to seeing this season.
“Our team this year is very close and all of us root for each other,” Musser said. “We have wonderful leadership and everyone is out there trying to get better each and every day.”
That close relationship will come in handy as the Lions battle the usual challenges that come with spring sports balancing school responsibilities, the desire for summer on the horizon, and the intensity of a challenging schedule. Last season the Lions finished 4th in Division 4 with a solid 8-6-0 record, making it to the semi-finals before losing to North Smithfield.
“Biggest challenges this year will be reflective of normal years with it being the spring sports season and everyone getting the summer itch as well as a lot of end-of-the-year school activities,” Musser said.
Despite all these difficulties, the team is ready to come out each game with passion.
“I think that every game is challenging at any level,” Musser explained. “There is so much unpredictability in the way a ball is going to bounce, but I believe that hard work pays off. And we have the group of athletes on this team who possess that same mentality. If you believe it, you can do anything!”
Sophomore Emmalyn Araujo echoed what Musser said emphasizing the team’s dedication.
“We push each other to be better every single practice,” Araujo said. “Even when things get tough, we know we have each other’s backs, and that’s what makes us strong as a team.”
