There’s a new Mexican spot in town, El Oasis Taqueria, that popped up on Higginson Ave, taking over the old Weiner Genie location. It’s still pretty under the radar so I figured I’d check it out to see if it’s a hidden gem.

The inside of the restaurant is very lively and spacious. There is colorful papel picado everywhere, which is punched out paper decor, with the kitchen very visible. There were plenty of seats to accommodate many guests. There are no menus inside, so I looked up their menu online. I went for Carne Asada Tacos, although there are also burritos, quesadillas, and more.
When I went there were two staff members working and they were both very kind. Their service was quick and communication was very easy.
You can order as many tacos as you want. I ordered two, one for myself and one for my mom. The ordering process was simple, and I only had to wait for a little bit before my tacos were ready. Two tacos came out to about $8.40, which I think is reasonably priced considering they are homemade and authentic. The tacos were pretty bite sized. The tacos came with Salsa Verde, which is a salsa sauce made from green tomatoes, peppers, and various seasonings.
The Carne Asada Tacos were soft shell corn tortilla tacos, with steak, lime juice, cilantro, and onion. The tacos were very flavorful. I could taste the lime juice and the onions added a nice flavor. The steak was seasoned well and was also very tender, and the tortillas also tasted nice. The taco was very filling and left me craving for more. There is so much more to order from the menu so I will definitely be going back to try more food.

Although El Oasis Taqueria was very good, I do wish they took Apple Pay. I went in thinking I could use my phone to pay but had to use a card instead.
This restaurant has a similar premise to another restaurant I’ve been to, Baja’s which has franchises all over Rhode Island. Although I really like this restaurant, it seems to have fewer food options than Baja’s. They both have good food though, and I’d say the food is about the same quality.
I definitely recommend visiting El Oasis Taqueria. It is a small business and serves authentic and tasty Mexican food. The interior is clean and spacious, and the food is delicious. Try it today!
