Summer is almost here and that means big summer sales and summer birthdays are arriving! As an early Summer birthday gift, I received a new Apple Watch series 10, which was on sale for $299, marked down from the original $399. (The watch is now $329 on Amazon, but with the summer arriving, expect more sales ahead.) I highly recommend buying the watch or adding it to your birthday list. The watch comes in a variety of colors: jet black, rose gold, or silver aluminum. The watch is a great buy for those who love water sports, fitness, or even just casual Apple users.
For those looking for their first smartwatch purchase, there are many reasons to choose the Apple Watch over others. The Apple Watch is known for having the most accurate heart rate tracker, is lighter than other smartwatches like the Garmin, and includes all the apps on your phone. A feature the Garmin or other watches fall short of. Garmin does have a longer battery life but lacks the various watchfaces that the Apple Watch offers. I would recommend iphone users looking for their first smartwatch to go with the Apple Watch, as everything is synced from your phone and easy to access.
New design and feel
The Series 10 is now eight months old, but it is still the newest Apple smart watch on the market. Upgrading from my old Apple Watch SE, I’ve seen many improvements and positives compared to my older watch. The first positive is the lighter and thinner design compared to the Apple watch SE I had before. The thinner design has provided better comfort for my wrist when working out and doing physical activity. The watch does not feel as heavy as some of the older watches, making it easier to wear all day without having to take it off.
I have also been impressed with the bigger screen, which is useful when trying to text or navigate different workouts or apps on the watch. The biggest positive throughout my week of wearing the watch is the always on Retina display. Instead of the watch turning off when you’re not looking at it, the Series 10 instead goes in a dim mode, which is good for tracking workouts or running apps. The watch also has speakers to play music if you choose, which is a good option for those who want to turn on a quick beat. The watch is able to last up to 18 hours, while charging 80% in just 30 minutes, which is something that I have definitely noticed when charging. The Series 10 design and feel is a definite upgrade.
New Health, Fitness Features
The Series 10 also comes with some new fitness and health upgrades. The Watch is now able to sense the water temperature depth, a great feature for any swimmers out there. It is a must buy for any swimmer or water goer. As always, the watch is able to do a good job estimating your calorie burn through fitness tracking and the step tracker, which is a big help to anyone on a fitness journey like myself.
Overall final thoughts
During my first week wearing the Apple Watch Series 10, I noticed many of the newer features making the jump from my Apple Watch SE 2nd gen. My favorites and most notable features are the always on ability, the new thinner and lighter design, the less laggy software, and faster charging. I really don’t have many negatives to say but I will note that I would not upgrade if you have a watch that is less than 3 years old, as the changes become less recognizable. The Apple Watch Series 8 and 9 are still great watches that offer most of the features as the 10, such as fitness tracking, fast chips, and good overall battery life. In the end, if you’re someone who is athletic and looking to find a watch that is able to help you better track workouts and swimming, or if you’re just looking for a newer smartwatch that doesn’t lag or is uncomfortable, I would put the Apple Watch Series 10 on your radar this summer.
