New seasons require new beginnings, and that’s exactly what’s occurring for Lincoln High School’s new guidance counselor, Katie Vespia.
A veteran teacher with 18 years experience, Vespia spent the last four years at Lincoln Middle School, where she was an eighth grade resource teacher. She decided to move to the high school, so she could work with an age group she hadn’t before.
Vespia enjoys helping students succeed in life. She wants what’s best for her students like any other counselor and hopes for the best.
“I had a school counselor who changed my life,” she said. “I want to be the same support that I had.”
Head of guidance Christine Testoni has seen Vespia’s work and had a lot of positive comments to say about it. When asked how well Vespia has been handling the new job, this is how she responded.
“[It’s going] really well,” said Testoni. “I would say that she has a natural ability to work with kids, and I would say that she is translating that very well to her work as a school counselor.”
While guidance counselors have a lot of positive things that go into their jobs, there are also a lot of challenges and problems that occur. According to Vespia, balancing multiple responsibilities is something some guidance counselors struggle with.
Vespia’s start at Lincoln High School has been very promising and made a positive impact the school community.
