Girls cross country has had a promising start to their 2025-2026 season this fall. They did well in their injury fund meet, finishing second in their race. This start of the season pushes the team one step further towards their ultimate goal, placing top three in their division.
“The goal is to place in the top three in our division again this season,” said girls head coach Sue Carlson. “[This] will qualify us for the State Meet and continue to have runners earn All Division, All Class and All Academic honors.”
The goals presented by Carlson are a to repeat the team’s standing from last year, when they had three runners earning all division, one runner earning all class, and one earning all academic.
Along with the team’s goals, , each runner is aiming to see improvements in their own running.
“Aside from placement, cross country is about personal growth and discipline, and watching the work each runner puts in come out in their times,” Kouraj said. “We are looking to go out and run and have fun this season.”
With the new season comes the loss of old runners and newer runners stepping up. Last year’s captains of the team Elizabeth Alger and Meredith Sammon-Burns graduated, leaving space for upcoming runners to step up to the plate.
“This year, we have juniors Hayden Lugar, Malia Miller, and Molly Halliwell as our top three runners,” said Kouraj. “[Sophomore] Meredith Evans is also a top runner.”
With the vision of team and personal growth, the girls cross country team is on the path for a good season.
