A late score by senior Elaine Joy helped Lincoln come back from a two-goal deficit at halftime to tie Mt. Hope last night. The tie helped keep Lincoln in third place with its 4-3-1 record, two spots above Mt. Hope.
Despite the game being evenly played in the first half, Mt. Hope went into halftime with the lead. Junior keeper Eva Genereux’s performance, including multiple one-handed saves, kept the lead to two before Lincoln cut the lead in half when Joy assisted junior midfielder Abbi Kapadia on her first goal of the season. Then, with only 2:26 left on the clock, Joy scored to tie the game.
Kapadia was pleased with the performance of the team.
“We definitely possessed the ball more and took more opportunities on net, and as a defensive group, we got the ball out and cleared it to players’ feet instead of out of bounds,” said Kapadia.
Elaine Joy was incredible in the midfield. She was everywhere in the midfield, and she had such good passes and assisted Kapadia, who scored the goal that boosted Lincoln up, making it 2-1, and she scored an absolute banger from a corner kick that she took, just before the 2-minute mark. Elaine Joy is a clutch player. She comes out of nowhere and makes miracles happen.

Despite the excitement of the late goal, the Lions were disappointed to have dropped points. The ultimate goal is to win, which junior Riley Bouthilette reinforced in the postgame huddle with the team.
