Lincoln girls’ volleyball suffered a close loss Wednesday night against undefeated Mt. Hope. Despite the 3-0 score, the match was much closer, with the Huskies winning the first two sets 26-24.

“We need to get better at closing out at the end of our games,” senior libero Kimmy Hickey said. “We were really close to the other team in all three sets, and it got down to the last five points of every set, where we weren’t able to close out when we should’ve been able to.”
In the first two sets, Lincoln fell behind before coming back to tie it at 24-24, before ultimately coming up short. Lincoln kept the Huskies from winning the match point for a while until errors were made in the Huskies’ favor. Both teams were neck and neck, with Lincoln making incredible diving saves and kills to stay in the game.
Regardless of Lincoln losing, the girls put up a fight, and Hickey highlighted the performance of junior captain Allison Dumont.

“Allie definitely brought up our energy, and she was hitting really well, which definitely brought up the team with her kills,” Hickey said. “Overall, she led our team’s energy performance.”
The loss leaves the Lions’ overall record at 8-4 this season. Next they will travel to North Smithfield to take on the Northmen on October 14.
