As the spring season begins at LHS many of the students are talking about the baseball, softball, track, tennis, volleyball and lacrosse teams. But there’s one that many forget even exists , and that’s because they haven’t won a division championship since 2014. 

The golf team at LHS is often lost in the dust of people’s minds, probably because the golf team doesn’t  practice on school grounds, nor does it get as much social hype as other sports. A lot of people don’t even like golf because they find it boring; they just never watch it on TV. 

Freshman Michael Gugel is no exception.   “It has no action and also takes a very long time to play and watch,” he said.

 With a total of 17 players on the team including five freshmen, two sophomores, six juniors, and four seniors, the Lions have a lot of interest from every grade. The Lions are coached by head golf pro at Lincoln Country Club Nick Maresca. Maresca was the head coach of the for a while before taking a break for the 2022 season before returning to coaching last year.  The team has three captains: Adam Alferi, Jack Lawson, and Marco Vuono.  All three hope to help lead the team to success. These three have a positive view towards this year’s talent. Senior Captain Marco Vuono said, “It seems like everything is coming together for us and this could be a much different year than the others.”

The team is also going to need to see big contributions from sophomore Josh Bergeron who helped the team a lot last year as a freshman.

The top six players will participate in the first match of the year, slated for today, April 22.  The team is getting prepared by practicing at Lincoln Country Club and Atlantic Golf center driving range.
