Lincoln High School starts its exciting Spirit Week today, a yearly event where students unite to express their school spirit with a variety of themed dress-up days. Each day gives students the opportunity to be imaginative, flaunt their personal style, and strengthen friendships with their classmates. With themes that vary from silly and humorous to classic and competitive, this year’s Spirit Week is sure to be one of the best ever.
Here’s what’s in store for each day of the week:
Monday: Sports Day
The fun kicks off on Monday with “Sports Day”! Everyone is invited to show off their favorite sports teams or wear outfits from any sport they love. Whether you’re into football, basketball, soccer, or tennis, it’s your chance to flaunt your sports spirit. Get ready to see jerseys from professional teams, LHS sports teams, and maybe even some cool homemade jerseys.
“I’m wearing my favorite basketball team’s jersey,” said junior Landyn Hart. “It’s a cool way to start the week¨
Tuesday: BBQ Dad and Soccer Mom Day
On Tuesday, the vibe will shift to something more fun with “BBQ Dad and Soccer Mom Day”. This humorous theme encourages students to dress up like typical suburban parents. Picture dads flipping burgers in their Hawaiian shirts and fanny packs, while moms gear up for soccer practice with visors, shades, and water bottles. These silly costumes are bound to get everyone laughing.
“I’ve already got my grilling apron and a spatula ready,” junior Wilson Yang joked. “It’s going to be fun to see everyone walking around looking like suburban moms and dads.¨
Wednesday: Rhyme Without Reason
The middle of the week will be a fun twist with “Rhyme Without Reason” day. This theme encourages students to partner up and come up with costumes that rhyme but don’t really relate to each other. It’s a great way to show off creativity and teamwork, we can expect to see some really clever combinations. From “Teacher and Preacher” to “Bee and Tree,” there are so many options to choose from.
“Rhyme Without Reason is definitely the coolest day,” said senior Aiden Lascola . “My friend, and I are planning on being a chef and a referee¨
Thursday: Throwback Thursday
We’re diving into a blast from the past with Throwback Thursday! Students can rock outfits from their favorite decades, whether it’s the bright and bold 80s, the edgy grunge of the 90s, or the trendy Y2K looks from the early 2000s. It’s a chance for everyone to embrace their inner retro fashionista, and for a lot of us, it’s the ideal reason to go through our parents’ old clothes or hit up some thrift shops.
“I’m going full 90s with flannel and ripped jeans,” said junior Finley Stebeene. “I love looking at old photos from those times, and it’s cool to recreate that look for a day.”
Friday: Class Colors Day
The highlight of Spirit Week will be “Class Colors Day”. Each grade will show off their class spirit by wearing specific colors. Freshmen will be in white, sophomores will sport red, juniors will flaunt blue, and seniors will proudly wear red, white, and blue to showcase their leadership in their final year. The day will end with the exciting Spirit Rally, where classes will face off in games, cheers, and contests to see who can show the most school spirit.
“Class colors is a cool day, last year as Freshmen we showed that we have spirit, so this year we are gonna try harder to win”, said sophomore Elie Eskaf.
Every day of Spirit Week 2024 is packed with excitement and fresh experiences for everyone at Lincoln High. From students dressing up as athletes or parents to taking a trip down memory lane, it’s clear that school spirit will shine brightly throughout the week.
