Positive comments are swarming the internet about Chick-fil-A’s new frosted soda floats. But are these drinks really worth the hype?
These drinks cost around $5 per item, with classic soda flavors like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, and Barq’s Root Beer, to other well-known brands like Hi-C Fruit Punch and Powerade.
Chick-fil-A is one of my go-to places whenever I’m hungry and in need of good food. So when I heard about their new desserts, I knew I would have to try them for myself. Sadly, I was a little disappointed with how they tasted, and wished they had more flavor.
Their large selection of drinks made it difficult for me to pick two to test, but I ultimately decided on the Barq’s Root Beer float and their Dr. Pepper frozen soda.
The Dr. Pepper frozen soda was a light brown color, with a slushie-like feel, while the root beer float was topped with vanilla ice cream. They both almost immediately melted in my cups.
Starting off with the frosted soda, I immediately could tell that my drink was Dr. Pepper. It tasted like the original thing, but less flavorful. I liked the texture, feeling more like a slushie and less like ice cream. The dessert wasn’t awful, but as I kept on drinking it, I couldn’t help but feel like something was missing.
Moving on to the root beer float, I was a little more disappointed. Like the slushie, I felt like it lacked flavor, and was a little bland. I’ve had ice cream desserts at Chick-fil-A before, so I already knew what to expect from their ice cream. It was the only decent part of the float, tasting smooth and creamy usually. Still, when I was drinking this float, I felt like the taste was bland and could have been better.
I wouldn’t recommend these sweet treats, because I believe that there are better options on the menu. If you’re like me, and like a lot of flavor in your desserts, you should consider buying one of their milkshakes instead.
