On October 18, LHS had its annual Homecoming dance, where students were able to celebrate the football game’s victory the previous night, and end spirit week strongly.
The theme of this year’s dance was inspired by the book and film, The Great Gatsby, and showed a great variety of decorations. Gold tinsel strings were held from the gym entrance, and themed statements were written on windows, such as “Dance The Night Away With Us” and “Memories Last A Lifetime”. Food and water were located in the gym hallway, which included brownies, cookies, and popcorn.
After the hired DJ had gotten into a car crash, Mr. Allen was able to serve as a replacement and keep the night energized. He made sure all the music being played was appropriate and controlled what was being listened to. A list of song recommendations was later created by students, and allowed a large variety of music to play.
There appeared to be an increase this year with the number of students attending. It seemed like more freshmen had attended the dance than last year, and it felt as if there was a lower number of upperclassmen attending. However, there were multiple sophomores seen scattered across the dance.
“It seemed like more kids were interested in coming to the homecoming dance and to hang out,” said science teacher Mrs. Jescke who was one of the chaperones at the dance.
Upperclassmen who had never attended a HOCO dance and the freshmen class were able to experience a taste of LHS’s dances, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
“[The dance] was the first one I went to, so I didn’t really have a reference, but I liked the atmosphere,” sophomore Alexander Ghizdavu said. “I thought it was very school patriotic.”
Later in the evening, the homecoming court was called up to the front of the room, where they each received a sash and took an amazing group photo. This included Khadija Diagne, Breanne Bouthillette, Ava Mellow, Jayden Rodrigues, Finley Stebenne, and Kimmy Hickey.
