With another Spirit Week over, the memories of old LHS traditions are brought back into light. Students play exciting games such as tug-o-war, dodgeball, musical chairs, and more to win points for their class.
An event that used to rock the school’s Spirit Week, but is no longer even remembered by the current student body, Skit Night was an eagerly anticipated event almost every year until its abrupt end in 2020.
“Skit Night was one of the events where classes used to take their theme, attach it to the core values of LHS, and produce a skit for it.” student council advisor Christopher Allen said.
Students worked together to write a 20-minute act poking fun at the other grades and their themes, all whilst enacting hilarious scenes for their peers. Any overtime resulted in disqualification. The skits were then voted on by administrators to decide who had the best skit.
The event was so popular that it once had to move from the gymnasium to the auditorium to accommodate the amount of students attending.
Though, as the years went on, interest seemed to drop slowly among students. One reason could be that many believed it was rigged for the senior class to win. Finally, after it was cancelled due to the Covid quarantine, Skit Night was never restarted, and it fell into a thing of the past.
“Things are certainly coming back now in terms of interest in events,” superintendent Dr. Kevin McNamara said. “I think it’s more important that we focus on a really well attended battle. I’d like to see the gym packed with that.”
Instead of bringing skit back, there potential for students to introduce new events.
“Some people have spoken about maybe doing some form of trivia night,” said Allen.“So I’d like us to not just go back to old ways, but possibly be creative and come up with something unique for the current class to do.”
