On Tuesday, November 4th, Lincoln High School’s girl’s soccer team lost against undefeated North Kingstown in the semifinals match 3-0.
North Kingstown’s team had previously been undefeated, playing against other schools and having a huge goal difference. LHS had previously won against Cumberland, which led them to the round against Northkingstown High School.
“I think we did very well,” said sophomore Mikayla Procter., “Even though we lost we played our hardest.” said sophomore player Mikayla Procter.
The first half of the game kept at an exciting pace, with goals being blocked and a consistent work ethic from both teams. Ava Mello, Talia Lambert, and Kassidy Rong played midfielder positions. Mikayla Procter played a defender position and Eva Genereaux as goalie.
After the first half, the score was 1-0, with Northkingstown in the lead. Despite the point, LHS’s team continued to play strong and focused. The second half was just as exciting, with the suspense of who will win running through everyone’s head. In the end, two additional points were scored by Northkingstown, leading them to victory.
“It was disappointing and a little sad playing my last game as a Lion, but there is a very talented group that will still be here, and I expect them to continue on trying to capture a Championship,” said senior captain Ava Mello.
The ending of the game was very emotional, with players crying and hugging one another. Captains were sad about their last year playing for a high school team, but proud at how far they made it.
Although the LHS’s girl’s soccer team season has come to an end, just making it that far is something they should be very proud of.
“The seniors are so proud of everyone and can’t wait to see what the future holds,” said Mello. “We are a family and we will be cheering them on.”
