After starting off the 2025-2026 basketball season unbeatable, the boys basketball team’s season unfortunately ended in disappointing fashion with a 63-45 loss in the quarterfinals against Portsmouth High School.
The team came into the playoffs as the two seed but struggled without star player Gianni Pagios who injured his leg at the end of the regular season. The game was tied into the second quarter, but the Lions fell behind and never caught up.
Despite the disappointment, the varsity team coach, Jeremy Wilner, had a lot of positive comments about this year’s varsity team, and how well they’ve been this season.
“This is the most connected, player-led group I have ever been around, and I truly love coaching this team and senior class,” said Wilner. “They embody our culture and identity, showing up every day with a team first mindset, no personal agendas, and an unwavering commitment to getting better together and winning above all else.”
The starting five of the team, Andrew Picozzi, Brian Gugel, Jarret O’ Hagan, and captains, Gianni Pagios and Joshua Bergeron, all put in tremendous amounts of work, which showed through their game scores and team commitment. These students were all seniors this year, and really made their legacy at LHS special.
